Steve Palmer's LIV Miami preview
Jon Rahm, the 2023 Masters champion, will be warming up for the Augusta showpiece this week at Trump National in Florida, bidding to win his first LIV title of the year. He finished fourth in LIV Miami last season.
Rahm, who has been unhappy with his wedge-play this term, looks poor value for LIV Miami. Joaquin Niemann, who has won two of the four LIV events this year, is more appealing, but bookmakers are giving nothing away at the odds.
Bryson DeChambeau, who led his Crushers side to victory in the 2023 LIV Team Championship at Trump National, is tempting, while Florida-based duo Brooks Koepka and Tyrrell Hatton deserve respect, but preference is for digging deeper down the betting for the best each-way value.
Steve Palmer's top tip
Dean Burmester 20-1
This could be a week when both defending champions keep hold of their silverware. Akshay Bhatia can be expected to provide a stout defence on the PGA Tour in Texas, while Dean Burmester seems unlikely to give up his LIV Miami title without an almighty fight.
Burmester has lived in Florida for a couple of years and teed up in LIV Miami last year feeling extremely comfortable in his home state. His long driving is a huge asset at Trump National, where players make their score on the par-fives.
The South African powerhouse made his Trump National debut in the 2023 LIV Team Championship, playing well for the Stingers, then he won the inaugural LIV Miami 12 months ago, carding rounds of 68, 69, 68, before beating Sergio Garcia in a playoff.
Burmester, a four-time winner on the DP World Tour, joined LIV in February, 2023, and has never been more confident at the age of 35. He started this year with fourth place in LIV Riyadh. Second spot in LIV Hong Kong was another eyecatching effort on an unsuitable layout.
With no Masters distractions – Burmester has not qualified for Augusta – another LIV Miami success seems entirely feasible.

Next best bet
Dustin Johnson 35-1
Former world number one Dustin Johnson still retains much of the ability which helped him win two Major titles – and the Florida-based 40-year-old will be relishing the chance to make a pre-Masters statement in Miami.
Johnson was thrilled with his practice form heading into LIV Hong Kong, but woke on the morning of the first round with a shoulder injury, having “slept funny” the night before. The discomfort continued through the second round and DJ got tailed off, but he felt looser on the Sunday and closed with a 64.
The following week, Johnson opened with rounds of 63 and 68 in LIV Singapore, eventually finishing the event in fifth place. He has upped his practice with the Masters looming and Trump National, where he had form figures of 4-1-14 in the WGC event there from 2014 through 2016, seems a great opportunity.
Johnson led his 4 Aces team to victory in the 2022 LIV Team Championship at Trump National. He has a wealth of course experience to draw upon.

- Course overview The famous Blue Monster at Doral was a PGA Tour stop for many years, hosting a regulation event from 1962 to 2006, then the WGC-Cadillac Championship from 2007 to 2016. Gil Hanse remodelled the layout in 2014 and made it tougher. The LIV Team Championship was at this venue – the final event of the 2022 and 2023 seasons – but Miami became a regulation stop last season. This is a long track with water hazards lurking everywhere
- Story of last year Dean Burmester defeated Sergio Garcia in a playoff after both men tied at 11 under par after 54 holes
- Weather forecast Sunny, warm and breezy throughout
- Type of player suited to the challenge Competitive experience from the 2014, 2015 and 2016 WGCs at the remodelled Doral is useful. The Doral honours board is bursting with powerful golfers, but all-round ball-striking quality will be needed this week given the windy forecast
