High-class English quintet head to Scotland chasing healthy prize money

John Catlin and Hudson Swafford were last week's winners - ante-post 40-1 and 200-1 chances respectively - so punters are looking to mount a fightback in the Scottish Open and Sanderson Farms Championship.

Catlin, who followed up his Andalucia Masters victory by topping the leaderboard in the Irish Open, had his supporters. Runner-up Aaron Rai, though, was the much better backed of the pair at similar odds - and the Wolverhampton man needed a birdie up the par-five 18th hole on Sunday to force a playoff. After finding heavy greenside rough with his second shot, Rai capitulated to a bogey-six from there, leaving bookmakers smiling.

Later in the day, Swafford edged to a one-shot success in the Corales Puntacana Club and Resort Championship, shrugging off a dire run of form to claim a second PGA Tour title. Adam Long took a two-shot lead into the final round and was 10-11 for victory, but a 75 meant he dropped to fifth place. A closing 65 hauled pre-tournament favourite Will Zalatoris up to a share of eighth.

This week sees the Scottish Open on the European Tour and the Sanderson Farms on the PGA. A $7m prize fund for the Scottish, staged at the Renaissance Club, North Berwick, has attracted a strong field, including English quintet Tommy Fleetwood, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Danny Willett, Lee Westwood and Matt Wallace.

Sergio Garcia, Louis Oosthuizen and Henrik Stenson are among the most noteworthy runners for the Sanderson Farms.
