Hideki Matsuyama may be popular for Kiawah Island after Masters heroics

Japanese star tackles next Major assignment with strong US PGA record behind him

Hideki Matsuyama is a general 25-1 chance for next month's US PGA Championship in the wake of his Masters heroics.

The US PGA has traditionally been the Major in which Matsuyama has performed best - he led through ten holes of the final round at Quail Hollow in 2017 - and further success seems likely given the confidence gained from Augusta.

Matsuyama claimed the Green Jacket by a shot on Sunday, successfully defending the four-shot advantage he took into the final round, and he has made his Major breakthrough at the age of 29. A huge weight has been lifted from his shoulders - the Japanese ace has delivered the Land of the Rising Sun's first Major triumph - and it is reasonable to expect the six-time PGA Tour champion to go from strength to strength.

Matsuyama is also a general 25-1 for the US Open and a 33-1 chance for the Open Championship. Kiawah Island, Torrey Pines and Royal St George's are the Major venues for the remainder of this season.

Masters runner-up, Will Zalatoris, finished sixth in the US Open last year. Punters are nibbling away at the rising star for this year's edition and he is a best-price 40-1 for Torrey Pines.

This week sees the Austrian Open on the European Tour, headlined by Martin Kaymer, and the RBC Heritage on the PGA Tour, featuring Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa, Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Cantlay and Tyrrell Hatton.
