Preview

Rory McIlroy led by one shot after the third round of the WGC-HSBC Champions event in China and it is no surprise to see the man from Northern Ireland odds-on to complete the task.

McIlroy is a general 10-11 to hold back the challenge of nearest rival Louis Oosthuizen and the rest of the strong field and, a week after Tiger Woods claimed success in the Zozo Championship, it would not be a shock if the challenge laid down by the 15-time Major winner inspired the 30-year-old from Holywood.

From a betting perspective, there could be some value to be had further down the field with American Kevin Kisner potentially able to push into a top-five spot.

With five shots to make up on McIlroy, a challenge for the trophy may be unrealistic but the South Carolinian's game looks in good shape and he could overcome the two-shot deficit on England's Paul Waring, who is fifth at the start of the final round.

Kisner carded a second successive 67 in the early hours of Saturday morning and looks to have his game in good order.

He was 66th in Japan last week but that performance came nine weeks after his previous outing at the Tour Championship, where he finished ninth to cap a decent effort in the FedEx Cup playoffs.

The rust looks to have been shaken off and he could make a final-day push on a course where he was second four years ago.

For threeball punters, home favourite Haotong Li could finish with a flourish alongside Adam Scott and Bubba Watson in the 1.30am group.

Li sprung out of the traps with a Thursday with a 64 before falling down the leaderboards with rounds of 72 and 74, but he could improve on last year's 11th-placed finish.

Scott would have had higher expectations before a disappointing 75 after rounds of 66 and 69, but he came into the tournament having failed to break par in seven of his previous eight rounds at the track, so he could prove a wobbly threeball favourite.

Watson's 72 in the third round was nothing special and his 2014 triumph in the tournament seems like a long time ago. It might not be long before the two-time Masters champion is thinking about heading for the airport.
