Ian Wilkerson's Nexo Championship preview
It is five years since the Scottish Championship had a place on the then European Tour, but it is back under the guise of the Nexo Championship this week, when players will face the demands of the Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire.
The course opened in 2012 and has hosted the PGA Seniors Championship three times, including last week when winner Bo Van Pelt and playoff loser Darren Fichardt were the only players to finish under par.
Ian Wilkerson's top tip
John Parry 25-1
While the worst elements of Storm Floris are set to leave the scene before hostilities commence on the north-east Scottish coast on Thursday, links experience looks set to be handy on this new test between the dunes.
One player who will not have far to look back to find some encouragement is John Parry, whose 16th at the Open looks fine form among this company.
The man from Harrogate carded two weekend rounds of 67 at Royal Portrush, which included a Saturday hole-in-one at the 13th, and that should have done wonders for the Yorkshireman's confidence.
He was tenth in the strokes-gained-on-approach stats that week and has gained shots on the field in seven of his last eight outings - the exception was against the elite at the US PGA Championship.
Parry has already enjoyed success this season, having won December's Mauritius Open, and he was also fourth at May's Soudal Open so there is scope for him to have another memorable week.
Next best bet
Richard Mansell 28-1
Richard Mansell won the Singapore Classic in March but it is his results a little closer to home that make him an attractive betting proposition this week.
It was a case of what might have been at the Scottish Open as he finished 22nd after a Saturday 73 pushed him out of the picture, but he should still take plenty of credit for his closing 66.
He was tenth the previous year at the Renaissance Club, where he finished with a 71, and he dropped to seventh at the Alfred Dunhill Links in 2022 after three great rounds were followed by a heartbreaking Sunday 76, but that is still great links form that deserves respect.
Other selections
Marco Penge 12-1
Jorge Campillo 35-1
Another Englishman, Marco Penge, is set to go off as favourite this week and the faith of the market could be justified.
His performance at the Scottish Open, where he was second alongside Rory McIlroy two shots behind winner Chris Gotterup, goes a long way towards explaining that optimism and he showed his appetite for the fight in the closing stages, staying in touch with a Sunday 66.
He demonstrated his strong tee-to-green game on that occasion and there have been other notable performance this year such as an encouraging 28th at the US PGA Championship and an 11th at the BMW International, so he should be forcing his way into the picture in a field of this indifferent standard.
Spain's Jorge Campillo was also 22nd at the Renaissance Club and 19th at the Alfred Dunhill Links in October, and he demonstrated in May that he can still be a force at this level when he was second behind Haotong Li in Turkey, so don't be surprised if he also has a good week.

- Course overview The Trump International Golf Links was designed by Martin Hawtree and opened in 2012. It is hailed as a modern links course which is carved between huge dunes up and down the Aberdeenshire coastline. Many of the tee shots are elevated and blind but the fairways are pretty generous. The traditional defence of rough awaits those errant from the tee and while this is the first time the track has been used on the DP World Tour, it has hosted the PGA Seniors Championship for the last three years, with the 2025 won by Bo Van Pelt last week.
- Weather forecast The worst of the week's weather should pass before the start of the tournament and while breezes are likely to be stiff, they may not prove decisive. It is difficult to say at this stage whether there will be a preferred side of the draw on the opening two days. Play should remain dry but the toughest conditions look set for Saturday afternoon. Temperatures are likely to peak in the high teens.
- Type of player suited to the challenge This is a new test for everyone but there will be a premium on finding fairways and those with greater knowledge of the demands of links golf have an advantage. A low ball flight to help nullify the influence of any wind gusts should also help
