Course Golf de Saint-Nom-La-Breteche, Paris, France
Start time 6.45am

The Ryder Cup stars who graced Wentworth for last week's BMW PGA Championship have headed across the Atlantic to Bethpage Black, which means there is a lot less glamour for the Open de France, which starts on Thursday.

Renovations at Le Golf National, which has hosted the tournament since 2001, means a change of venue to Golf de Saint-Nom-La-Breteche, which steps in 22 years after it last provided the scene for the defunct Trophee Lacome.

England's Harry Hall, who made a strong impression in the final PGA Tour campaign to almost force his way into European captain Luke Donald's plans, features prominently in the market, alongside Canadian Corey Conners, who has hung around after missing the cut in Surrey.

Top tip

Kristoffer Reitan 28-1

It is difficult to gauge the ideal fit for a course that was last used at this level 22 years ago, but there seems to be some margin for error off the tee, so strong driving ability and the ability to negotiate the sloping greens could prove the passport to success.

Norwegian Kristoffer Reitan possesses both of those qualities as he ranked 11th in strokes-gained off the tee and 26th on the greens, and he heads to Paris in the form that suggests he can come out on top of what is not a strong field by DP World Tour standards.

His 24th at Wentworth in a much more high-profile gathering than this one was a respectable effort and Reitan's form has been impressive over a sustained period.

The 27-year-old's season turned around when he was second at the Hainan Classic at the end of April and then followed that with his first DPWT victory at the Soudal Open a month later.

Four more top-tens have followed since and in a tournament that lacks star quality he will fancy his chances of making a bold bid.

Next best bet

Adrien Saddier 25-1

There will be hefty French representation this week and Adrien Saddier should be expected to lead the charge.

He could hardly be going into this tournament in better form having found only Alex Noren better than him at Wentworth and that came immediately after he was tied for fifth at the Irish Open  in a tournament much stronger than this one.

Saddier claimed a two-shot victory over his compatriot Martin Couvra in the Italian open at the end of July  and he looks the best bet for the first French success since Thomas Levet won at Le Golf National in 2011.

Other selections

Ewen Ferguson 55-1
Oihan Guillamoundeguy 90-1

Scotland's Ewen Ferguson has not had much to smile about in the last few weeks but his fifth at Wentworth should be a huge shot in the arm and he could build on that Surrey performance.

That finish four shots behind Noren came from nowhere after a succession of poor showings, but he is capable of following up a strong performance, as he demonstrated early in the summer when he was second at the Soudal Open and then fourth the following week at the KLM Open.

It is worth taking a chance that his improved spirits can lead to a fourth DPWT success.

Meanwhile, one player definitely worth keeping an eye on is promising French youngster Oihan Guillamoundeguy, who has been making waves in his second season on the Challenge Tour.

The 20-year-old claimed a three-shot win at the Irish Challenge event last month, which was one of five top-ten finishes in his last ten events, and he could demonstrate his potential on this bigger stage.
