Charl Schwartzel can get the better of rivals in Switzerland

England's Andy Sullivan found his form at the European Masters on Thursday but he may have his work cut out to keep former Maters champion Charl Schwartzel off his tail in Friday's second round.

The pair will be involved in a 12.10pm threeball alongside Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee and the South African can move into the second half of the tournament in better shape.

Sullivan's five-under-par 65 at the scenic Crans Montana track included seven birdies, but it was in stark contrast to his previous visits.

He has missed the cut on his other trips to Switzerland in 2014 and 2016 and he failed to make the weekend in his three outings before this week's tournament.

Schwartzel, who fired an encouraging 67, missed the last two rounds of the Northern Trust a fortnight ago, a performance that ended his interest in the Fed Ex Cup playoffs, but it is only a few months since he finished second to Webb Simpson at the illustrious Players Championship.

He has an excellent record in European Tour events, missing just one cut in his last eight outings and his worst finish in the other seven was 28th at last year's World Tour Championship.

Crans-sur-Sierre holds decent memories too. He has not played at the course since 2010, but he finished sixth on that occasion and fifth the year before, so he is plainly comfortable in the mountainous surroundings.

It would be a surprise if Jaidee becomes a factor after his five-over-par 75 left him tailed off in his quest to extend his consecutive run of made cuts in the tournament to ten.
