Second-round preview

Ante-post 125-1 chance Wil Besseling led the Alfred Dunhill Championship after round one, the Dutchman carding a seven-under-par 65 at Leopard Creek Country Club, South Africa.

The 33-year-old, a winner on the Challenge Tour in 2008, eagled the 15th hole and has shortened to 16-1 for a maiden European Tour title on Sunday.

Branden Grace did best of the market principals, the previously out-of-form South African opening his Dunhill campaign with a solid 68, but pre-tournament favourite Christiaan Bezuidenhout had a nightmare start. Bezuidenhout made a nine at the 18th on his way to a six-over-par 78, drifting from 12-1 to 300-1 in 18 holes.

Second-round threeball punters are pointed towards Charl Schwartzel, who will be thrilled with the way his comeback from injury has gone so far. Schwartzel, sidelined for seven months, is nursing a fragile wrist, but he made ten birdies in the pre-tournament pro-am and followed that with a first-round 70.

Schwartzel, who has finished in the top two at Leopard Creek eight times, is worth chancing against Bezuidenhout and Pablo Larrazabal in the 10.10am contest.
