Golden Gagli finding fairways for fun

In-form Italian must be followed

Miguel Angel Jimenez is being shown too much respect
1 of 1

Sky Sports Golf, 9.30am Thursday

Resurgent Italian Lorenzo Gagli is striking his ball beautifully, finishing second for driving accuracy and fourth for greens in regulation in his national Open last week, and he can be fancied to outscore JB Hansen in the Shot Clock Masters.

Gagli was ten under par for the weekend in Italy, playing his final six holes in five under, and confidence is coursing through his veins. The more erratic Hansen, who has course form figures of 47-55-MC, seems less certain to show his best.

It is a shock to see some firms putting the 54-year-old Miguel Angel Jimenez in a tournament match against rising Austrian starlet Matthias Schwab. The careers of these two players are going in different directions and Schwab should be clear favourite against a methodical, grouchy veteran who is unlikely to enjoy his every move being timed.
