Glen Durrant ready to retain BDO world darts title
Gladiator McGeeney faces a test of strength
Channel 4 & BT Sport 1, 4.45pm Sunday
A tournament of thrills, spills, upsets and final-set deciders has somehow managed to find the right final as defending champion Glen Durrant takes on BDO number one Mark McGeeney.
Durrant has had to deal with the PDC sideshow throughout the tournament but that didn't stop him producing a near 101 average - the highest in the history of the BDO World Championship for a match of nine sets or longer more - to get past Jim Williams in the quarter final.
Duzza's mind now seems to be clear of those distractions and that was evident when the Middlesbrough man brushed aside Scott Waites 6-2 in the semi-final.
Durrant now seems on a different level to anyone else in the BDO - despite what the rankings say - and should he produce a performance anywhere near what he has managed in the last eight or last four, McGeeney will struggle to compete.
There isn't even the barrier of not being in this position before for last year's champion Duzza and although McGeeney has twice made the final of the World Masters, the Lakeside stage represents a far tougher test of the Gladiator's strength.
Durrant is rated a 5-6 chance giving McGeeney a 3.5-set start in this best-of-thirteen showdown, and given Duzza is the superior thrower and McGeeney lacks final experience, that looks worth taking.
G Durrant -3.5 sets
