Germany may find it tougher than the odds suggest

Italy and Germany got off to winning starts in their Group C campaigns at the European Under-21 Championship and both are short-priced favourites to make it two out of two.

The Italians were 2-0 winners over Denmark and now face the Czechs, who were themselves beaten 2-0 by the Germans. But that all looks far too neat.

Italy were decent enough against a very one-dimensional Danish side, but no more than that. They didn't carry much in the way of form into the tournament and it was a fairly tepid effort on Sunday, punctuated by a moment of class from Lorenzo Pellegrini and a late effort from Andrea Petagna.

Luigi Di Biagio's side are odds-on against the Czechs and it's easy enough to understand why. Italy were solid defensively in qualifying, the Czech Republic the leakiest of the eight sides to make it. A low-scoring win to nil for the Azzurri is suggested.

In the other game, Denmark appear to have the tools to stop a strong Germany.

Stefan Kuntz's youngsters have gone to Poland with a big reputation but they rarely threatened against the Czechs in a fairly uneventful opener, while Denmark qualified for the finals with an exemplary record - dropping just two points and conceding only three goals.

The more familiar names are in the German squad but they don't look like 1-2 shots.

Their last five Under-21 internationals have produced a total of six goals and they lost two of those.
