Galway ready to explode and claim last-four berth
Waterford do not need more league silverware. They won the title in 2015 and were agonisingly beaten by Clare in the decider last year. They have sizzled in spring for the last couples of seasons but an All-Ireland challenge did not materialise. Derek McGrath knows that and he surely has one eye on the Munster championship.
With that in mind, Galway look a cracking bet to book a semi-final ticket. Waterford have played all the big teams. They have tussled with Tipperary and locked horns with Kilkenny and McGrath knows where he stands with his troops. It is a different story with the Tribesmen.
A shock loss to Wexford means another season in Division 1B is on the horizon in 2018 and their only other meaningful challenge came against Limerick last weekend where they ran out richly deserved three-point victors.
Galway need to treat this showdown with Waterford like a championship match. They need a hot and heavy battle with one of the superpowers and should be champing at the bit heading into today's tussle on home soil.
Tipperary are the most likely winners of the All-Ireland this year but Galway are also contenders. They have all the necessary ingredients to concoct a challenge, especially if Joe Canning is back to his best as he seems to be.
Galway's bid for the 2017 All-Ireland title starts on Sunday and they could wallop Waterford, especially if McGrath's heart is not in it. Backing the hosts to win by four points or more looks a safe play, while the 12-5 that Paddy Power are offering about them netting three times is also worth taking.
The quarter-final clash between Cork and Limerick has goals written all over it so take the 5-2 about five or more majors being scored.
