Weekend Gaelic Football predictions
Meath vs Cork
3pm Saturday
It's the most brilliant and bizarre All-Ireland championship in decades. Meath beat Dublin who subsequently beat Galway. Cork should have beaten league champions Kerry who subsequently beat Roscommon by ten points.
On those lines of form, Meath and Cork should consider themselves genuine All-Ireland contenders, but we all know they are not.
The point is, both teams can turn it on when they want to and it will be a case of who clicks when the teams, who fought out the final of the All-Ireland in 1987, 1988 and 1990, do battle again.
Meath might have home advantage, but they are coming into the clash on the back of a crushing loss to arch rivals Louth. A first Leinster title was within touching distance as they led by a point with seven minutes remaining, but they couldn't complete the job. Now, they have to dust themselves down for the All-Ireland series, where the visiting Rebels will be upbeat after almost causing an almighty shock against Kerry.
Cork have big-name players back in their side and it all seems to be coming together nicely for the Rebels, who have already beaten Meath in the league. You can still get evens about an away win and those odds are worth taking.
Pairc Tailteann has been the scene for some big-scoring encounters in 2025. The Royals conceded 1-29 at home to Monaghan in the league, 0-21 to Offaly in the Leinster championship and even Carlow managed to nab 0-19 in their visit to Navan.
The Meath defence opened up like the Red Sea for three Louth goals in the Leinster final and it could be worth backing Cork to score at least 22 points. They ought to be well on their way to surpassing that tally at half-time.
Louth vs Monaghan
GAA+, 4.45pm Saturday
Louth are Leinster kingpins for the first time since 1957, but they didn't play particularly well against Meath and were bitterly disappointing for the first 50 minutes.
Meath outplayed them in that spell and, but for the concession of three goals, would surely have come away with the silverware.
It will be interesting to see what impact the celebrations have on Louth and, whether they are flat or not in the opening stages of this encounter. Monaghan beating a two-point handicap looks the play.
Armagh vs Derry
5pm Saturday
Another Ulster final loss will sting for Armagh and it is hard to resist having a little nibble on Derry at 4-1.
You cannot become a bad team overnight and Derry have been planning for this outing for ages. Expect to see a different Derry side when they visit the Athletic Grounds.
Donegal vs Tyrone
GAA+, 7pm Saturday
The value in the All-Ireland market right now is surely Tyrone at 14-1 after they destroyed Armagh in the second half of their Ulster semi-final and were so unlucky to come away empty-handed.
You can see the difference Malachy O'Rourke is making already and odds of 9-5 about the Red Hand county coming away from Ballybofey with a rare win over Donegal look exceedingly generous.
This Tyrone team is a coming force and Donegal didn't particularly impress in their Ulster triumph. They got goals at crucial stages and dug deep to prevail in extra-time thanks to some more magic from the evergreen Michael Murphy.
That tussle will surely have taken its toll on Donegal, though, whereas Tyrone come into the All-Ireland series much fresher.
The stats suggest there will be no goals in this clash. Neither of the games between these two sides in the championship last year produced a goal and there have been only two scored in total in their last four championship bouts, but those stats have been factored too much into the price of over 2.5 goals.
Odds of 9-4 about three goals or more is too big, given the way Donegal went for the jugular when they needed to against Armagh, and that same approach could be punished by Tyrone's lethal inside forward line. It is as short as 6-4 elsewhere and that's probably a fairer reflection.
