Tipperary to run riot on early voyage to Croke Park

While the week’s delay may have given Pat Gilroy’s men some extra time to prepare for Tipperary, it’s unlikely to change the outcome as Tipperary enter this encounter as heavy odds-on favourites.

Dublin have struggled massively in Division 1B this year, with just two wins over Laois and Antrim, and their performances against the higher-ranked sides in the league have left a lot to be desired.

The switch from Parnell Park to Croke Park for this rescheduled fixture, will be another negative Dublin must contend with, following their opening round hammering at the hands of Offaly, and the open spaces of Croke Park should suit a Tipperary side who have been travelling well in the league.

They recovered from an opening-round loss to Clare to win three of their remaining four outings, and ended up finishing top of Division 1A.

Jason Forde has been the star man for Tipperary and University Of Limerick in 2018, and already has silverware to his name, guiding his UL side to the Fitzgibbon Cup.

He returned from college duty to hit 12 points in their three-point win over Cork in round five, and Tipperary’s scoring record in 2018 has been impressive. They’ve hit an average of 26.75 points in their last four games, despite hitting twenty wides against Cork two weeks ago.

While Cork put pressure on Tipperary throughout to force many of those wides, this should be a much more straightforward task.

Tipperary were disappointing in 2017, so they will be keen to kick off 2018 on the right note. Expect them to pass this test with ease and rack up a high score in the process.
