Goals on the menu with attacking units set to shine at Semple Stadium
Division 1 semi-final likely to be tight
Tipperary v Limerick
Semple Stadium, 7pm Saturday
Tipperary were eight points behind after ten minutes of their quarter-final with Dublin but they slowly clicked into gear to win by 11 points.
While manager Michael Ryan will be concerned with the slow start, their eventual victory was impressive as they finished with 2-25 on the scoreboard.
Tipperary’s high-scoring has been a hallmark of their league campaign. They have averaged 27.6 points in their last five outings.
Limerick have been one of the form sides of the league, easily making their way through the early rounds of Division 1B, and they have come back from large deficits to beat both Galway and Clare in their last two outings.
Limerick’s young team and short-passing style has been a joy to watch, but their wayward shooting has let them down too often.
Cian Lynch has been on fire since his move to midfield, and although Limerick are still without their Na Piarsaigh contingent, Gearoid Hegarty and Tom Morrisey have been huge ball-winners in the half-forward line.
They needed a last-minute goal to force extra-time against Clare, but their resilience when facing defeat has been most impressive.
Both sides will be pleased with their progress in 2018, with both teams topping their respective divisions, and while they have used the league to test out their panels, silverware is now in sight.
The teams will meet again in the opening round of the Munster Championship on May 20, but neither side will be looking beyond this clash.
The sides have met five times in championship hurling since 2012, with four or fewer points separating them on four of those occasions and another close contest could be on the cards.
