Sunday analysis

Laois v Cavan

O'Moore Park, 2pm

Laois are tough to beat at home but they look too short for Cavan's visit to O'Moore Park and are worth taking on.

Cavan registered their first win of the campaign with a 1-17 to 1-13 success over Westmeath in round two, but that does not tell the whole story. The Breffni boys trailed 0-8 to 0-3 at half-time and were down to 14 men following the early red card shown to corner-back Paddy Meade.

The fact they managed to turn things around so spectacularly in the second half suggests there is still a great spirit in the Cavan camp despite their lengthy injury list and new management team.

Cavan were plying their trade in Division 1 last year, while Laois were paddling in the shallower waters of Division 3 and did not even win the title, so the betting looks wrong for this Division 2 clash.

Louth v Offaly

Drogheda, 2pm

Louth are pointless after two rounds of Division 3 action and a third defeat looks in store when Offaly go to Drogheda.

Offaly have only a single point in the bank, but there were encouraging signs from their first-half display against Cork in round one and they look to be making progress under John Maughan.

A first success of the campaign is in the offing, and it could be more comfortable than the market suggests.

Wicklow v Sligo

Aughrim, 1pm

Sligo are unbeaten in Division 4 with two wins from two and a score difference of +13, but you could argue that the best display in the division so far has come from Wicklow.

Their 2-11 to 1-6 victory over Waterford is rock-solid form and it once again proved how formidable Wicklow are on home soil in Aughrim.

The layers do not appear to have read enough into home advantage and Wicklow appear decent value at 2-1.
