Dublin vs Wexford predictions

GAA+, 4.30pm Saturday

Dublin needed a late surge to get past a plucky Offaly side but it came at a cost as Donal Burke and Danny Sutcliffe were forced off with injuries and miss this crucial encounter.

In any case, Wexford have the upper hand here. Despite losing Jack O'Connor to an early red card, they ran out convincing 11-point winners over Antrim in their opening game and are moving nicely ahead of a big year.

Lee Chin is absolutely flying and was unplayable last weekend, while Rory O'Connor, Kevin Foley and Cian Byrne continue to prove dangerous up front. Despite a couple of early drubbings in the League due to a host of injuries, they finished strong and their defence has been resolute in trying circumstances. They conceded an average of 22.5 points during the campaign, a record bettered only by Cork.

Keith Rossiter's side are building some excellent momentum since some key players returned to action and they are strongly fancied to continue in that vein here.

Waterford vs Clare predictions

RTE, 2pm Sunday

Clare pulled a miracle out of the fire when clinching a draw with Cork last weekend despite being 12 points down at half-time and eight points down with two minutes left of normal time.

However, there are still some question marks over the All-Ireland champions after they were blown apart in the first half and had a desperate League campaign.

Meanwhile, you get a sense this Waterford team are waiting in the long grass. They have garnered few headlines given they were contesting division 1B of the League but they won it with the minimum of fuss and their marquee players are beginning to filter back into the side.

Tadgh de Burca has a couple of games under his belt since returning from injury, while Dessie Hutchinson and Jamie Barron were moving well during the latter stages of their League campaign. Conor Prunty is a huge addition, while Shane Bennett and Austin Gleeson are named on the bench but surely will be in from the off. They were a puck of a ball away from beating Clare and getting through Munster last year and they could be in better shape this time around.

They're going under the radar and can ambush Brian Lohan's men.

Cork vs Tipperary predictions

RTE, 4pm Sunday

Cork let a sizeable lead go against Clare last weekend, while Tipperary put up a spirited display against Limerick to fight out a valuable draw.

When these two met in the League final, Tipperary were badly exposed and suffered a ten point loss. Cork were electric in their first half against Clare and Shane Barrett's sending off had a profound impact on the game. His loss will be felt but the introduction of Declan Dalton doesn't weaken things and is once again a demonstration of how strong this Cork panel is.

Tipperary will gain confidence from their opening display but they will likely struggle with Cork's running game through the middle third given how deep their half back line lies and this could be a repeat of the League decider. Both sides are strong in attack, shooting the lights out in the league with around 28 points per game, so there should be plenty of attacking flair on offer.
