All-Ireland Hurling Championship predictions

Dublin vs Limerick predictions

RTE, 4pm Saturday

While there is little shame in losing on penalties to Cork after a pulsating hour and a half of hurling, Limerick were a level or two below their best in the Munster final a fortnight ago but they should be able to swat away Dublin in this quarter-final without too much fuss.

Dublin haven't made a semi-final in 12 years and there's very little to suggest they can topple a side of Limerick's calibre. They had a reasonable Leinster campaign, impressing with a victory against Wexford, and put up a spirited second-half performance to run Kilkenny to four points in Nowlan Park.

However, they were pretty underwhelming in the final round against Galway when losing by five. They go into this match following a runaway victory against Kildare last weekend but that means nothing in the context of this game.

The 11-point handicap is a fair reflection but Dublin have the potential to nab a goal or two. They've hit three goals in each of their last five games, including against Galway and Kilkenny, and they have the ability to go direct and bypass the dominant Limerick half-back line, while they will be well aware it will be difficult to match the opposition in the points department so goals will be even more of a priority than usual.

Galway vs Tipperary predictions

RTE, 6.15pm Sunday

Tipperary are warm favourites for this clash even though Galway have won four out of the pair's last five championship meetings, including at this stage in 2023.

However, Tipperary have taken significant strides forward in the intervening two years, while Galway have largely stood still and put in the type of dull performance that has become commonplace. They were beaten by eight points in the Leinster final by Kilkenny.

Bar their two losses to Kilkenny, there were plenty of signs of encouragement in Galway's Leinster campaign as they really imposed themselves on Wexford and Dublin with dominant displays but they continue to show they are capable of really off-putting displays.

Tipperary will be buoyed by their Under-20s, All-Ireland success this month and their promising Munster campaign, in which they were defeated just the once when down to 14 men against Cork, while they finished off with a very impressive performance against Waterford.

Galway are not a bad team but they are capable of bad performances. However they tend to show up against Tipperary and while Liam Cahill's men should have too much for them, they will probably have to fight for it.
