Match previews

Nice boss Patrick Vieira was yet to start his first-team managerial career when Lens were last in Ligue 1 in the 2014-15 campaign and the club from Pas-de-Calais could be in for a testing start to their new top-flight campaign.

Lens gained promotion from Ligue 2 last season as runners-up, with the teams having played only 28 matches, and they were just one point clear of third-placed Ajaccio and two ahead of Troyes, who have both remained in the second tier.

In their first game back in the top flight they will be facing a Nice side who finished fifth in Ligue 1 in 2019-20 and have recruited well this summer, bringing in defender Robson Bambu and former Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, as well as signing Rony Lopes on loan from Sevilla.

Nice lost only three of their 15 matches at their Allianz Riviera home last term and are worth a bet at even money to start the season with a win.

Another newly promoted side, Lorient, could fare better in their opener at home to Strasbourg, who lost eight of their 14 away matches last term, scoring a miserly ten goals on the road.

Lorient added Adrian Grbic, who scored 17 Ligue 2 goals last term, to their ranks this summer and have the attacking firepower to cause problems for Strasbourg.
