Match preview

Antonio Conte's arrival at Tottenham has given the club a huge lift and his tenure can get off to the perfect start with a dominant victory over Vitesse Arnhem.

Conte cannot simply wave a magic wand and transform the fortunes of a team who have lost five of their last seven Premier League games, but his arrival is sure to lift players' spirits and energise supporters.

Tottenham's dismal 3-0 loss at home to Manchester United was the final chapter of Nuno's 17-match reign but there were several other unconvincing performances, including last month's dismal 1-0 loss away to Vitesse when a second-string Spurs side turned in a poor performance.

Conte is likely to go with a few more senior men although Sunday's trip to Everton will play a part in his thought process.

However, the starting line-up and the bench should be a lot stronger than on matchday three and the occasion could prove difficult for the Dutch visitors, who need at least a point to retain a top-two position in Group G.

Vitesse played with intensity and aggression on matchday three and showed moments of quality, including the sweet match-winning strike from wingback Maximilian Wittek.

Thomas Letsch's side are up to fifth in the Eredivisie after three wins in four league games but the timing of their visit to Tottenham is as bad as it gets and they may struggle to avoid a heavy defeat.

Key stat

Tottenham have won each of their last eight European home fixtures by at least two goals
