Match preview

Fierce rivals Swansea and Cardiff are failing to fire at present and that could lead to a subdued derby in South Wales.

Last season’s playoff finish is a distant memory for the Swans, who have won only one of their last seven league games, while Cardiff, who were eighth in 2020-21, have suffered five straight defeats.

Russell Martin’s Swans have netted just nine goals in 11 league outings - three of which came in a thrilling draw at Luton - while three of their five fixtures on home soil have ended goalless.

And it is easy to envisage another low-scoring clash on Sunday as Cardiff have scored just once in five league games, piling the pressure on manager Mick McCarthy.

With the Swans shot-shy and Cardiff yet to register a first-half league goal this season, backing the first goal to be scored after the 33rd minute makes appeal.

Key stat

One or both teams have failed to score in each of the last eight South Wales derbies.
