Sunderland could be facing an Everton backlash

Everton are having a tough time at the start of the Premier League season but they can give their supporters a lift by posting a comfortable home victory over Sunderland in the third round of the League Cup.

The Toffees have lost four consecutive matches without scoring but they were competitive for long periods of Sunday's 4-0 defeat at Manchester United, where they conceded three goals inside the last 12 minutes.

Ronald Koeman has spoken of the importance of his team getting back to winning ways and is likely to name a strong side.

Sunderland could find themselves on the wrong end of an Everton backlash and may be powerless to prevent a heavy defeat.

The Black Cats are languishing in 21st place in the Sky Bet Championship and cannot call on Everton loanees Tyias Browning and Brendon Galloway, who are ineligible.
