St Pauli should keep it tight at Bochum

Monday Night Football could be close in Germany's second tier

Bochum v St Pauli
BT Sport 1, 7.30pm Monday

Monday Night Football has been a feature of Bundesliga 2 since the inaugural match between St Pauli and Bochum in October 1993, so perhaps there is a sense of irony that those teams meet in the first MNF since it was announced the slot will end in the 2021-22 season.

It's popular with German TV viewers but less so with paying supporters and Bundesliga 2 has now followed the top flight in scrapping their Monday matches when the next contract kicks in.

In this match a bet on a low-scoring game could prove profitable as the teams are evenly matched.

There is little between them in the table - visitors St Pauli are one point above Bochum and they have similar shot data as well as squad value. That maybe explains why bookmakers believe the teams would be not far off the same level if Bochum did not have home advantage.

St Pauli allow fewer than four shots on target per game and there have been only 11 goals in their last six matches.

Bochum's run of 24 goals scored in 15 games looks unsustainable given that seven have come from outside of the area.
