Real and Dortmund lock horns in epic clash

Borussia Dortmund v Real Madrid
This looks to be the game of the night and it should live up to the billing as gung-ho Borussia Dortmund face Real Madrid in a repeat of last season’s group-stage encounters.

Both of those clashes finished 2-2 and goals appear guaranteed, particularly as Dortmund need the win following a 3-1 matchday one defeat at Tottenham.

Dortmund hammered Monchengladbach 6-1 on Saturday when the visitors were lucky to lose by only five and they seem even more adventurous under new boss Peter Bosz.

Their goal difference of plus 18 is the best after six matches in Bundesliga history but, as Spurs highlighted at Wembley, defensively Dortmund have much to learn at the top level.

Expect Cristiano Ronaldo and Isco to cause havoc on the break with Dortmund’s high line extremely vulnerable.

Napoli v Feyenoord
The last time Feyenoord won a non-qualifying Champions League clash on their travels was in 2002 at Newcastle and that away-day hell is unlikely to end in Naples.

It’s great to see a fine name like Feyenoord, who won their first Eredivisie title in 18 years last season, back at this level but they should be outclassed.

That was the case on matchday one when Manchester City eased to a 4-0 win in Rotterdam and it could be argued Feyenoord are a weaker team than last season.

Eljero Elia, Terence Kongolo, Rick Karsdorp and Dirk Kuyt are some of those to have departed, while top goalscorer Nicolai Jorgensen is injured.

Feyenoord have lost their last two league games and keeper Brad Jones looked hapless in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to NAC, which does not bode well.

Napoli have scored at least three goals in all six of their Serie A clashes this season.

Leipzig have come a long way in a short space of time and they could hardly have been handed a more intimidating first European journey than a trip to Istanbul.

No side gets an easy ride at Besiktas in European encounters and this could well be a game in which goals occur at both ends.

Both teams scored in 11 of Besiktas’s 12 European matches last term, although it may pay to be more ambitious by backing at least three goals.

Besiktas highlighted their attacking qualities with three goals in a win at Porto on matchday one but Leipzig also have goals in them.

Striker Timo Werner, who scored in Saturday’s win over Eintracht Frankfurt, has notched nine times in ten appearances for club and country this season, while Naby Keita’s return from injury and suspension is a massive boost to the Bulls.

Sevilla have won their last two home matches to nil and they can bring up the hat-trick against Maribor.

Maribor bring a decent record to Seville, having lost only one of their 20 matches in all competitions this season, while their domestic tally of 24 points from ten fixtures is an improvement of four points on this time last year.

However, this is not a typical clash for the Slovenians, who are going up several notches in grade from their usual opposition and the probable absence of last season’s leading scorer Luka Zahovic would lessen the chance of launching dangerous counter-attacks.

Sevilla were unable to make many inroads at Atletico Madrid on Saturday – they lost 2-0 and failed to register a shot on target – but this will be much more to their liking.

Keeper Sergio Rico is protected well and this should be a routine home banker.

However, 17 wins in their last 18 league games cannot be a fluke even if Radamel Falcao will struggle to continue his red-hot streak.

Falcao is Europe’s top goalscorer in elite leagues with 11 goals this season but those have come from only 12 attempts on target.

Monaco matched Leipzig in a 1-1 draw on matchday one despite an alarming drift in the betting, whereas Porto were beaten 3-1 at home by Besiktas.

Porto have won seven on the spin to lead their domestic league but it has been from a soft set of early fixtures.
