Match preview

Rangers dominated the Scottish Premiership last season and they looks set to continue where they left off against Livingston.

The Gers finished 25 points ahead of second-placed Celtic and their record on their own patch was simply outstanding.

Steven Gerrard's side won all 19 of their home SPL matches, scoring 57 goals and conceding just four. Rangers claimed 15 of those 19 Ibrox league victories without shipping a goal and at 4-6 they look a nice price to shut out shot-shy Livingston.

It's been a pretty stable summer at Ibrox, with no major outgoings while Fashion Sakala and John Lundstram are the only notable additions.

There doesn't seem to be any reason to suggest that Rangers won't produce the excellent performance levels they managed last term and there could even be room for improvement.

Livingston enjoyed a comfortable campaign last season and the highlight was reaching the League Cup final.

However, the stats told a different story from the results and Livi managed an average of just 9.42 shots per game in the Scottish top flight. Only the SPL's bottom club Hamilton recorded fewer and boss David Martindale lost forward Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and key defender Jon Guthrie to Aberdeen and Northampton respectively in the close season.

Those two performers hit the net ten times for Livingston last term and it remains to be seen if those goals will be replaced.

It's hard to see Livingston having enough of the ball to create any meaningful chances, and if their League Cup exploits are anything to go by, they could be in for a tough season starting with defeat at Ibrox.

Key stat

Rangers won 15 of their 19 home league games without conceding last season
