Manchester City 8-11 to retain title after goalless draw at Anfield

Manchester City stayed top of the Premier League after drawing 0-0 with Liverpool at Anfield but it could have been even better for them had Riyad Mahrez not missed an 87th minute penalty.

Mahrez stepped up after substitute Leroy Sane had been felled by Virgil Van Dijk but showed no composure by blazing over the crossbar.

City failed to score for the first time since a goalless draw at home to Huddersfield in May while Liverpool were shut out for the second time in five days, following their 1-0 loss at Napoli on Wednesday.

Liverpool slipped to third and have eased in the title betting from 9-4 to 5-2.

And, in the context of the title race it was a better result for City, whose odds have hardened from 8-11 to 4-6.

The result extended Liverpool's unbeaten Premier League sequence at Anfield to 25 games. Bet365 offer 11-2 that the Reds finish the league campaign with an unbeaten home record.

Chelsea climbed to second as goals from Eden Hazard, Ross Barkley and Alvaro Morata sealed a 3-0 success at Southampton.

Hazard leads the top-flight scoring charts with seven goals and his brilliance could be the key to Chelsea sustaining a meaningful title challenge.

The Blues are 9-1 to finish top of the pile, while Southampton are 7-2 to be relegated.

Saints have won just four of 25 league matches this year and are only two points clear of the drop zone.

Arsenal moved above north London rivals Tottenham into fourth place after strikers Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored two goals each in a 5-1 triumph over Fulham at Craven Cottage

It was a ninth successive win in all competitions for the Gunners, who are the second highest scorers in the division.

Bet365 reacted by cutting Arsenal from 15-8 to 6-4 for a top-four finish.

Fulham were left just two points and one place above the bottom three and have the worst defensive record in the league, having shipped 21 goals in eight games.

Slavisa Jokanovic's side have been cut to 9-4 for the drop and must improve before important away trips to Cardiff and Huddersfield after the international break.

Jose Mourinho is looking a little more secure in the Manchester United hotseat after his team's stunning fightback against Newcastle on Saturday, although he is still odds-on to be the next top flight manager to depart.

By the end of the weekend the Portuguese was Paddy Power's 4-6 favourite to be the next manager to go. However, his odds had shortened to a low of 1-5 with the same firm on Saturday.

Neil Warnock is the second favourite in Betfair and Paddy Power's book at 7-1, while Rafa Benitez is a 15-2 chance.
