Fixtures for the 2021-22 EFL season will be released on Thursday and Torquay can make sure they are part of the process by beating Hartlepool in the National League final at Ashton Gate.

Playing the game in Bristol has not dented the enthusiasm of Hartlepool fans and more than 3,000 of them are making the 550-mile round trip to the West country.

But while they may not be outnumbered in the stands they could be outgunned on the pitch by a Torquay side who finished two places above them in the league campaign.

Torquay were pushing for automatic promotion for much of the season but swiftly overcame the disappointment of missing out and achieved a 4-2 extra-time success at home to Notts County in last Saturday's semi-final.

Pool also impressed in the semis – winning 1-0 at Stockport – but their tussle with Torquay, unbeaten since March, looks a step too far.
