Serbia vs England preview
England have reached the halfway stage of their World Cup qualifying campaign with maximum points, but they face a step up in class against Serbia and may slide to a damaging defeat.
Plenty of criticism has been levelled at Thomas Tuchel and the England players after Saturday's underwhelming 2-0 victory at home to Andorra, but the contest in Belgrade which will be much more relevant in terms or assessing whether the Three Lions are making progress or going backwards under the new regime.
And, far more important than outside perceptions, is the value of the three points at stake.
With the World Cup expending to 48 teams, there were expectations that all of the heavyweight European nations will be at the party.
However, Germany and Italy are having to play catch-up in their sections and England could still be dragged into a fight for top spot.
England faced Serbia in their opening match at Euro 2024, when Jude Bellingham's header sealed a 1-0 victory, but that was a scrappy, hard-fought victory with few chances created by either side.
Serbia were unable to recover and bowed out of the tournament after draws against Slovenia and Denmark.
However, they were competitive and well organised in every game and those traits have been evident in recent months as they have kept clean sheets in their last five home matches.
Serbia are five points worse off than England having played one game fewer, but will remain confident of giving Tuchel's side a run for their money in the battle for first place.
They are solid in defence with Nottingham Forest's towering Nikola Milenkovic at the heart of their back three and have decent midfield players who can handle the ball.
Nonetheless, their main threat to England may come from corners and set-pieces.
Serbia have a choice of two from three strikers – Dusan Vlahovic, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Luka Jovic – who thrive on balls into the box, and they are often well serviced by wingbacks Andrija Zivkovic and Filip Kostic, who are given plenty of freedom to push forward.
England will be aware of what is coming but they may struggle to deal with it.
Tuchel has kept Jordan Henderson and Marcus Rashford in the picture and even handed a recall to Kyle Walker for the June internationals, but his preference for experience is understandable.
Even with Henderson and Rashford's inclusions, the squad to face Serbia features just five players with 25 caps or more.
And, in the testing environment of a noisy atmosphere against powerful opponents, England's youthfulness could hinder their chances.
England have enough individual ability to gain a positive result but they have failed to convince as a team for a run of games and their vulnerability may be seized upon by Serbia.
Zivkovic could pose a threat
Serbia ask their wingbacks to stretch the game and provide dangerous deliveries into the penalty box. Right-sided Zivkovic loves to get forward and has had three shots in as many appearances during the World Cup qualifying campaign.
Serbia can turn the tables
England were 1-0 winners against Serbia in the group stage at Euro 2024 but that was a tight match which could have gone either way. Serbia should feel that they have a better chance on home soil and it may be their turn to secure a low-scoring victory.

Serbia or draw double chance
Serbia have not lost a home game for two years and they can take at least a point against England, who seem to be a long way away from realising their potential.
Under 2.5 goals
England defeated Serbia 1-0 in a tight match at Euro 2024 and there is every chance of another low-scoring outcome.
Morgan Rogers to commit two or more fouls
Rogers was joint-15th on the Premier League foul count last season and he could be penalised at least a couple of times in Belgrade.
