World Cup qualifying preview

Following the summer departure of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann, Memphis Depay will be Barcelona's talismanic forward this season and the former Lyon man is also the focal point of attack for the Netherlands.

And Depay rose to the occasion for his country in their latest World Cup 2022 qualifier against Montenegro, bagging a brace in the 4-0 victory.

Depay also struck twice during Euro 2020 for the Dutch and was influential in their recent 1-1 draw with Norway, managing an effort on target and making seven key passes.

Opponents Turkey were disappointing during the Euros but have been a tough nut to crack during these qualifiers, beating the Dutch in the reverse fixture in March, and rather than opt for a result bet, punters should go for Depay to open the scoring.

Croatia crashed out of Euro 2020 with a 5-3 defeat to Spain after extra time earlier this summer but that was an anomalous result in their recent run of fixtures, which have generally been low-scoring.

A lack of star quality in the final third has meant that Zlatko Dalic's men have had to grind out results in the World Cup qualifiers and so far that has worked well for them.

In Group H, they are second to Russia, having won three of their five assignments and they could again record a narrow win over Slovenia in Split.

Their five qualifying matches have featured only six goals in total while each of Slovenia's last three fixtures have seen under 2.5 goals.

Mateo Kovacic and Marcelo Brozovic still make up a sturdy midfield for the Croatians, who should take maximum points but most likely in a match featuring fewer than three goals.
