Italy v Brazil

BBC4, 8pm

Italy have made an impressive start at this summer’s World Cup and they can maintain their 100 per cent record in their final group assignment against Brazil.

Despite not having played in the tournament for 20 years, the Italians have been in excellent nick and they shocked Australia 2-1 before obliterating minnows Jamaica 5-0.

Cristiana Girelli and Barbara Bonansea have been tormenting defences and could run the show against an ageing Brazil midfield featuring 41-year-old Formiga and 33-year-old Marta.

Brazil allowed a two-goal lead to slip against Australia last time out and they could be set for further disappointment in Valenciennes.

Recommendation
Italy
2pts 2-1 Betfair

Key stat
Brazil have lost nine of their last ten matches.

Jamaica v Australia

BBC red button & BBC Sport website, 8pm

Australia were on the brink of a shock early exit from the World Cup when they were 2-0 down against Brazil but the Matildas came back to register their first win of the tournament.

Goals from Caitlin Foord, Chloe Logarzo and Monica Alves dispelled the theory that they rely too much on Sam Kerr in the final third and they have the attacking weapons to overwhelm Jamaica in Grenoble.

The Caribbean outfit did well to qualify for the tournament but they have lost their first two games against Brazil and Italy by an aggregate score of 8-0.

They have a tendency to fold against stronger opposition and lost 6-0 to the USA in the semi-finals of the Concacaf Women’s Championship last October.

With Australia desperate for points, the gulf in class between the teams could be evident in this final group match.

Recommendation
Australia -3 goals on handicap
1pt 4-5 Betway

Key stat
Australia have scored 14 goals in their last six matches.
