USA v Thailand

BBC Four, 8pm

Only one member of the Thailand squad has ever scored in a World Cup game and the tournament minnows could scarcely face a more daunting first opponent than three-time winners USA.

The Stars and Stripes went into the tournament as favourites, having lifted the trophy in Canada in 2015, and they have been swatting aside stronger opponents than the Asian side in their World Cup preparations.

Bookmakers are offering only a shade of odds-against about the USA giving up five goals on the handicap and a first goalscorer bet may be the best approach.

Tobin Heath has found the net twice in three games in her domestic league and represents value at 9-2 to open the scoring, having done so in the USA's last two matches.

Recommendation
T Heath to score first
1pt each-way 9-2 bet365

Key stat
USA have won their last four games by an aggregate score of 17-0.

Chile v Sweden

BBC Red Button, 5pm

Sweden are still searching for their maiden World Cup trophy but no side who have knocked USA out of a major tournament should be underestimated.

The Swedes beat the Stars and Stripes in the quarter-finals of the 2016 Olympics and, with four players boasting 100 caps or more, they do not lack pedigree.

One of their younger squad members could be a good bet to open the scoring. Mimmi Larsson has six goals in 20 appearances, three of which propelled her to the top of the scoring charts at the Algarve Cup, and she could cause problems for the inexperienced Chileans.

Recommendation
M Larsson to score first
1pt each-way 15-4 bet365

Key stat
Sweden have scored in five of their last six matches.

New Zealand v Holland

BBC Red Button, 2pm

A disappointing performance in the Algarve Cup coupled with a mediocre qualifying campaign has resulted in many ruling Holland out this summer but they have a winnable first fixture against New Zealand.

The Euro 2017 winners have enjoyed solid preparations for the tournament, beating Mexico, Chile and Australia by an aggregate scoreline of 12-0.

Their frontline is undoubtedly their key strength and few players make opponents quiver in their boots as much as Vivianne Miedema.

The Arsenal forward was top scorer in the Women's Super League with 22 goals and, having also laid on ten assists, she will be crucial to Holland's attacking game.

Recommendation
V Miedema to score first
1pt each-way 10-3 bet365

Key stat
Miedema has scored in each of Holland's last four games.
