England are 4-1 to retain their Women’s Euros title following their 6-1 win over Wales on Sunday, but world champions Spain are all the rage to lift the trophy in Basel on July 27.

Reasons for that confidence are that Spain have scored 14 goals in their three matches at the tournament and a quarter-final against hosts Switzerland, who scraped through Group A, should be routinely conquered.

La Roja are 4-5 to win the tournament, but England’s odds are likely to fall considerably if they can get past Sweden in their last-eight meeting on Thursday.

The Swedes were seen as dark horses at the start of the Euros but will now fancy that they can go all the way after a 4-1 win over Germany helped them finish top of Group C with a perfect record.

They were semi-finalists three years ago, when England beat them 4-0, but the Swedes are now unbeaten in their last 15 games so the Lionesses will not be able to take them lightly.

England are 23-20 to come through that test in Zurich in 90 minutes while the Swedes are 31-20 to book their place in the final four.

Either team would be expected to get the better of either Group A winners Norway, who came out on top of a poor section, and Italy, who claimed just four points from their three group games, so the top half of the draw appears weaker.

Should Spain get past Switzerland, they would come up against the winners of the final quarter-final between France and Germany.

The Germans, who were beaten in extra-time in the 2022 final by the Lionesses, were rocked by the Sweden defeat and face a Les Bleues side who have impressed throughout, putting England to the sword in their opening encounter.

Laurent Bonadei’s side staged an excellent second-half recovery to beat the Netherlands in their final Group D game and they will have their backers at 5-1.
