Mark Hughes was revered as a player at Old Trafford but trips to the Theatre of Dreams have been more of a nightmare for his Stoke side down the years and the Potters must be fearing the worst for this lunchtime start at Manchester United.

Stoke have lost on all eight Premier League visits to United, while they have avoided defeat only once in their last 16 trips to Old Trafford – a 2-2 draw in 1980.

There is a big gulf between the clubs and their respective spending power so it should not come as a massive surprise that Stoke usually struggle at Old Trafford, and even when United were not at their best last season they still won 3-0.
