Turbulent Toronto could be frustrated by FC Dallas
Visitors have second-best defensive record this season
MLS 1am Friday night
Toronto responded to a poor start to the season with victory over highflying Orlando City last time out but they could be frustrated by FC Dallas.
The Texans have lost fewer games than any other MLS side this season with just one defeat.
Only Columbus Crew have a better defensive record than Dallas this campaign and the visitors are unbeaten in three matches since their 3-1 defeat to New York City.
Their recent switch to a 4-2-3-1 formation provides the side with good balance, with the youthful defensive-midfield partnership of Kellyn Acosta and Carlos Gruezo giving Roland Lamah and Max Urruti, who have ten goals between them, the chance to roam in the final third.
The home side also made changes in their most recent outing, shifting Michael Bradley from defence to midfield in the win over Orlando, but their attacking armoury appears too tame to cause any serious problems for Dallas.
Jozy Altidore, who netted 17 MLS goals last year, remains sidelined for Toronto, while fellow star forward Sebastian Giovinco has scored a paltry two goals this season.
Currently third from bottom in the Eastern Conference, Toronto have looked a shadow of last year’s championship-winning side. A sudden emergence from the MLS doldrums may be delayed beyond the visit of Dallas.
