Scotland and Ireland had similar records in their Women's World Cup 2023 qualifying groups and the stage is set for an intriguing playoff encounter at Hampden Park.

Both teams won five of their eight matches but Ireland progressed directly to the second round of the playoffs as one of the best group runners-up.

Scotland, meanwhile, had to battle through a 120-minute tie with Austria in the first round of the playoffs but were deserved 1-0 winners and that should stand them in good stead.

They have won three of their last four matches - the other was a hard-fought 2-1 defeat to the Netherlands - and they look a good bet to make home advantage count against Ireland.

In the other second-round playoffs, Switzerland face Wales and Portugal take on Iceland.

Two of the three playoff winners will qualify directly for the World Cup next year, while the winners who come out with the lowest combined record in the group stage and the second playoff round will have to settle for next year's inter-federation playoffs.

England Women are also in action on Tuesday and are 1-33 to win their friendly against Czech Republic, who are 22-1 with the draw 12-1.
