Tuesday EFL preview

Ipswich's abject efforts against League One's better teams is becoming a real cause for concern among Tractor Boys' diehards and represents stronger than usual grounds for opposing them at Wycombe.

The form figures alone are weighted heavily in Wycombe's favour – Gareth Ainsworth's men are 11 points superior to Ipswich having lost just twice this term. And those losses were at the hands of fellow highflyers Sunderland and MK Dons.

Odds-against quotes about the Chairboys makes them even more appealing.

Ipswich have thrown away 18 points from winning positions this term, an incredible record after just 15 matches, and that lack of appetite to finish sides off is becoming a real headache for boss Paul Cook.

A bigger issue – especially as their three games after this are against Oxford, Sunderland and Rotherham – is a woeful record against the sides above them. All of their five wins have come against teams below them in the table with a haul of two points from a possible 12 against those above.

After taking one point from their first six games, Doncaster have managed ten from the next nine, hardly inspirational stuff but sufficient to suggest they can win at the one team below them in the League One ladder, Crewe.

The Alex, whose one win this season was against a Burton side who finished that game with ten men, have lost four on the bounce going into this crunch tie and boss David Artell admits self-belief has been drained which would be a major concern if they fall behind.
