Tuesday's betting preview

The EFL Trophy may not be at the forefront of football bettors' minds right now but Tuesday marks the beginning of the competition's knockout stage.

There are 13 games on the menu and while Ipswich’s showdown with League One promotion rivals Portsmouth looks the standout tie, there are better bets to be had, starting with Burton at home to Tranmere.

The Brewers are third from bottom of League One but they should be full of confidence having snatched a late point in a 2-2 draw with leaders Plymouth on Saturday.

Burton won all of their three group games, scoring 11 goals, as they topped a section featuring Sheffield Wednesday, Bradford and Leicester's Under-21s.

With home advantage Burton should be able to get the better of League Two Tranmere, who have failed to win any of their last seven games in all competitions.

Lincoln can also utilise home advantage against Morecambe, just as they did when beating the Shrimps 2-1 in League One on Saturday - a result which moved the Imps 12 points and 14 places above second-bottom Morecambe in the third tier.

Morecambe were extremely fortunate to qualify for the knockout phase of the Trophy, having seen off Everton's youngsters and Hartlepool on penalties after 90-minute draws and losing at Harrogate.
