Tucuman should have enough to go through

Atletico Tucuman have a one-goal deficit to make up in their Copa Libertadores tie with Junior but it is a task they should be up to achieving.

The Argentinian side are contesting South America’s premier competition for the first time just 12 months since they claimed a place in the Primera Division and they are definitely a team on the up.

Players have made noises that they believe a place in the next round is within their grasp and the 1-0 first-leg defeat in Colombia, when Robinson Aponza’s effort was enough to settle the match, was Tucuman’s first defeat in eight matches.

The problem they have had has been getting over the line on their own patch, which has witnessed heavy rain for much of the last week. While they are unbeaten in their last seven home matches, a 3-0 success over Quilmes is the only win they have chalked up in that run.

They overcame Nacional of Ecuador in the last round and will be hoping that striker Fernando Zampedri, who scored in both of those ties, will continue his excellent form.

He played up front on his own in the first leg and has scored five goals in his last seven matches, but he could be aided by Cristian Menendez, who will be hungry for goals after six blanks.

Junior collected an away victory against Venezuelan outfit Carabobo in the last round but that was only their second win in their last 15 away efforts, so that hardly inspires confidence that they can see the job through.

Carabobo have also failed to score in their last six matches which does not frank the form either.

This looks a difficult task for the Colombians and it would be no surprise if their hosts get over the line in 90 minutes.

With no to-qualify prices available, it makes sense to back them to win the game.
