There was incredible drama on the final day of the League Two 2016-17 season as Portsmouth pounced to nab the title and Newport County stayed up thanks to an 89th-minute winner from Mark O'Brien.

That goal condemned Hartlepool to the National League, to the delight of Newport fans and the chagrin of punters who followed Racing Post Sport's pre-season advice to back the Exiles for the drop at 4-1.

Disgracefully mismanaged Leyton Orient finished bottom of the Football League - just three years after losing the League One playoff final on penalties - and their demise is a reminder of the ruthless nature of the fourth division.
