St Johnstone have gone almost unnoticed as they have stormed up the Ladbrokes Premiership and they are begging to backed at odds-against when they host Motherwell in Perth.

Tommy Wright's achievements at consistently getting the Saints to punch above their weight is remarkable, matched only by the curiosity that he never seems to get mentioned when top jobs become vacant.

This season he is at it again and his side are on a particularly impressive run of form, having won six of their last eight league games and drawn the other two.

Last week's thoroughly deserved 2-0 win at Aberdeen showed what they can do and inconsistent Well aren't the best travellers, having lost six out of their last seven games away from Fir Park in all competitions.

Saints' stealth-like rise could be good news for punters.

The game of the day in Scotland is in the Ladbrokes Championship and Ayr United can beat title favourites Ross County at Somerset Park.

Ian McCall's side were 66-1 at the start of the season but could go four points clear with a game in hand if they win.

Yet they are outsiders against Ross despite being unbeaten at home all season and having conceded just four goals there in the league.

Ayr's promotion success surely depends on them holding on to prolific 26-goal striker Lawrence Shankland, with Sky Bet Championship side Swansea closing in. But he'll be playing against a County side who have looked like they are nowhere near firing on all cylinders.

There will be a great atmosphere inside the old stadium and United can send County back on the long journey north with a major problem.

Partick Thistle finally got back to winning ways last week with a fine win against Dunfermline and they can beat Alloa at Firhill in the same league.

Gary Caldwell has endured a nightmare return to management since taking over at the Glasgow club, but he must have hope that a corner was turned last week.

Thistle tend to be far stronger at home too and they will be looking for revenge for a 1-0 defeat in Caldwell's first game at Alloa.

The Wasps have been brilliant this season for a part-time club who have no right to be in the Ladbrokes Championship, but Thistle have a better squad and look a solid wager to get back-to-back home wins.
