1 Derby

The great escape never materialised but the takeover has, and that means a new dawn – and new hope – at Pride Park. Liam Rosenior, a capable, bright and knowledgeable lieutenant for Wayne Rooney, has the reins and a parade of Championship and Premier League aces have flown in for a season which should end with promotion.

2 Sheffield Wednesday

Took their time to find their feet in League One last year; by term's end they were flying, arguably the best out there. Barry Bannan remains a critical lock-picker, while the addition of Rotherham old boys Michael Ihiekwe, Will Vaulks and Michael Smith should improve them again.
