Premier League: Tottenham v Leicester

Where to watch

Sky Sports Main Event & Premier League, 2.15pm Sunday

Match odds

11-10 Tottenham, 27-10 Leicester, 11-4 draw.

Form

Tottenham and Leicester both go into this game following midweek defeats, although they remain second and fourth in the Premier League and can be pleased with their opening third of the campaign.

Spurs suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat at champions Liverpool on Wednesday, conceding a last-minute goal to Roberto Firmino, in a game where Jose Mourinho claimed "the best team lost".

That may be pushing it as Liverpool had 11 shots on target to Tottenham's two, although Spurs did claim better expected-goal figures than their hosts and will feel their improved second-half display was worthy of at least a point.

Foxes chief Brendan Rodgers said he couldn't understand how Leicester lost 2-0 to Everton, but they mustered only two shots on target from 61 per cent possession.

Team news

Erik Lamela is unlikely to return for Spurs and Gareth Bale is struggling with illness. Japhet Tanganga is injured.

Caglar Soyuncu and Ricardo Pereira are unlikely to return this side of Christmas, but Rodgers reckons Timothy Castagne "will be fine for the Spurs game" and Jonny Evans returns from suspension.

The tactical battle

Has Rodgers learned from his mistake at Tottenham last season when his gung-ho team fell straight into Mourinho's counter-attacking trap and found themselves 3-0 down at half-time?

Leicester won the shot count 24-7 and shots on target 6-3 with 71 per cent possession, yet Mourinho's men controlled the game in as much as the match panned out exactly how Tottenham wanted it to.

Mourinho went 4-4-2 against Liverpool in a shift from his usual 4-2-3-1 but the tactics of sitting deep before launching counters remained the same. It was exactly how Heung-Min Son scored the Tottenham goal and Steven Bergwijn also passed up two big opportunities to put the Londoners ahead.

Verdict

This looks a good chance for Tottenham to bounce back to winning ways against a Leicester side who have lost three of their last five matches and lack the consistency of the hosts.

Rodgers' men may not get the space for their creative players to shine and Spurs can take this 2-1.
