Gunners hoping the formbook goes out of the window in north London derby
Premier League: Tottenham v Arsenal
Where to watch
Sky Sports Main Event & Premier League, 4.30pm Sunday
Match odds
Tottenham 20-21
Arsenal 3-1
Draw 13-5
Form
Tottenham are unbeaten in nine Premier League games since losing to Everton on the opening weekend and that run includes victories over Manchester United (6-1) and Manchester City (2-0) as well as last weekend's 0-0 draw at Chelsea.
Arsenal, in contrast, start the weekend in 14th place having lost their last three home games against Leicester, Aston Villa and Wolves.
The Gunners can take some solace from their last two away results – a 1-0 win over United at Old Trafford and a 0-0 draw at Leeds where Nicolas Pepe was sent off early in the second half – but a tally of just ten goals in ten league games mean they go into the north London derby low on confidence.
Team news
Tottenham
Toby Alderweireld and Erik Lamela are injured but Matt Doherty could return to the squad. Harry Kane missed Thursday's trip to Austria but should be fit to start.
Arsenal
Nicolas Pepe is suspended and Thomas Partey, Pablo Mari and Gabriel Martinelli are sidelined. David Luiz missed Thursday's Europa League fixture due to a head injury.
The tactical battle
Despite Arsenal's dismal goalscoring form, Jose Mourinho is unlikely to take a gung-ho approach and his preferred midfield trio of Moussa Sissoko, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Tanguy Ndombele form an excellent shield for the back four.
That central midfield area must be a concern for Mikel Arteta, especially with marquee summer signing Thomas Partey injured. Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos must ensure that the wide attacking players in Arsenal's 4-2-3-1 system are not starved of the ball while also preventing Harry Kane dropping deep to spark Tottenham's lethal counter-attacks.
Last term's top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang started the campaign on the left wing but has returned to a central role in the last couple of league games.
Verdict
Arsenal will be hoping that form goes out of the window in this derby but Spurs look an imposing unit under Mourinho and they should continue their strong start to the season.
Tottenham's new-look midfield gives them a solid base defensively while Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane have scored 16 league goals between them this term – six more than Arsenal have managed as a team.
