Inter's prolific striker Mauro Icardi is put under the spotlight

Finding elite strikers is difficult at the best of times, never mind the January transfer window, but with Chelsea and Real Madrid rumoured to be in the market for a goalscoring forward could Inter's prolific Mauro Icardi exit San Siro?

Wanda Nara, Icardi's controversial wife and agent, claims Inter tried to force their skipper to move to Juventus in the summer and are showing no signs of offering the ace Argentinian a new contract.

One Italian newspaper this week led with a front page of Wanda under the headline House of Icards, a play on the popular political TV show, and there is no doubt there is a powerplay going on at exactly the same time as the transfer window is about to open.

Also not in doubt is the fact that Icardi scores goals, and lots of them. He was joint-leading scorer in Serie A last term, notching 29 in total at a rate of one every 102 minutes, and his nine league goals this term have come with an MPG of 115.

However, Icardi has now also proved himself in the Champions League, scoring against Tottenham, Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven in his debut campaign at Europe's top table.
