Liverpool beating Everton would not normally count as a shock result but Jurgen Klopp's risky team selection was rewarded as a side shorn of the usual stars still managed to trump their Merseyside rivals 1-0 in their FA Cup third-round tie at Anfield.

Curtis Jones scored a brilliant winner to send the Reds through to round four despite Liverpool drifting from opening quotes of around 2-5 to 5-2 once the teams were announced.

Everton, slashed to 11-10 to win at Anfield, were knocked out against a reserve Liverpool side containing Neco Williams, Nathan Phillips, Pedro Chirivella, Jones, Harvey Elliott and debutant Takumi Minamino.

Crystal Palace crashed out, losing 1-0 to Sky Bet Championship outfit Derby in a game where Roy Hodgson's side saw Luka Milivojevic sent off.

Tottenham avoided a similar outcome despite conceding first to Ashley Fletcher as with Lucas Moura's header earned them a replay in a 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough.

It was far more comfortable for Chelsea as they beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 with Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ross Barkley on target for the Blues.
