Match preview

Stoke and Brentford both play in red-and-white stripes but that is as far as the similarities go for the Sky Bet Championship clubs this season.

While Brentford arrive at the bet365 Stadium in pursuit of a ninth straight league win and automatic promotion to the Premier League, the Potters have only recently hauled themselves out of relegation trouble.

Since the start of July they have picked up seven invaluable points from four matches thanks to home wins over Barnsley (4-0) and Birmingham (2-0) and a 1-1 draw at Bristol City on Wednesday.

But Michael O'Neill's men were thumped 5-0 at Leeds in their other fixture this month and that result does not bode well for the visit of a rampant Brentford side.

The Bees made it eight league wins on the bounce with a 1-0 home victory over Preston in midweek as Ollie Watkins took his goal tally for the season to 25.

Said Benrahma and Bryan Mbeumo have added another 32 league goals between them for the highest-scoring team in the division and Brentford should be too sharp for a limited Stoke side.

Watkins' winner against Preston came in the fourth minute and another fast start can be expected from the Bees.

The Brentford-Brentford double result is an appealing bet as their goal difference in the first half of Championship fixtures this season is +20.

Once Brentford go ahead they are hard to peg back, having conceded just two goals in seven games since the restart, and they pose a huge threat on the counter-attack.

Key stat

Brentford have been leading at half-time in 18 of their last 21 league victories.
