Kick-off 7.30pm Friday

Neither St Pauli nor Greuther Furth could start their Bundesliga 2 campaigns with wins last week but their respective results did not tell the full story.

The Hamburg outfit led 1-0 against the run of play but were denied victory by a 90th-minute Arminia Bielefeld goal last time out.

Greuther Furth, meanwhile, were downed 2-0 by Erzgebirge Aue despite winning the shot count 24-11 and having 63 per cent possession in their opener and they could represent value when they face St Pauli.

They have made improvements throughout their team including the additions of veteran centre-back Mergim Mavraj from Ingolstadt, winger Marvin Stefaniak from Wolfsburg and Fortuna Dusseldorf forward Havard Nielsen.

They were only four places and seven points behind St Pauli last campaign and are shaping up nicely to reduce that gap this season, starting with a positive result against their Hamburg counterparts.

St Pauli have only one fit striker available, last term's top scorer Dimitrios Diamantakos, as Borys Tashchy and Henk Veerman are sidelined.

Under the stewardship of former Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay, they have begun playing a more defensive style of football and they could be outperformed by a Furth outfit who like to operate on the front foot.

The visitors won at home against St Pauli in May, winning the shot count 21-9, and look value to salvage at least a point from their first outing of the new season.

Recommendation
Greuther Furth or draw double result
