Sporting Kansas City should sweep aside struggling Seattle

Sounders have made an abysmal start in MLS

Sporting Kansas City are unbeaten in five MLS games, winning four and scoring 12 goals, and they should have no trouble extending that run against the struggling Seattle Sounders.

Following a remarkable 2017 campaign in which they finished second in the Western Conference and lost to Toronto in the MLS Cup final, the Sounders have made an abysmal start this season.

Due to their involvement in the Concacaf Champions League, Brian Schmetzer’s side have played only three league matches. They have lost all of them and are yet to find the net.

Seattle have also had a player sent off in each of their three opening encounters, with Clint Dempsey’s suspension due to his dismissal against Dallas ruling him out of this clash.

City saw moderate success last year, finishing fifth in the 2017 Western Conference and winning the US Open Cup, but their fortunes have improved, partly due to the stellar form of Chilean Felipe Gutierrez.

The midfield maestro has five goals this season and looks like one of the best buys of the winter, but he is sidelined through injury for the visit of Seattle.

The match could feature two of last season’s most effective shot-stoppers in 2017 MLS goalkeeper of the year Tim Melia and Stefan Frei, who was part of last year’s MLS All-Stars squad, but there should still be goals.

Recommendation
Sporting Kansas City to win & both teams to score
