Michael Hansen’s managerial career is in its infancy but he is on course to guide yo-yo club Silkeborg back to the Danish Superliga at the first time of asking.

SIF sit top of the Danish First Division standings by one point and can create some breathing space with victory over third-placed Naestved, who are four points behind the leaders but with a game in hand.

The hosts have impressed since suffering a third relegation in five years and have the makings of a side who can finish the season strongly.

Up front they have Ronnie Schwartz, the division’s second-highest scorer with 15 league strikes, while 35-year-old club stalwart Dennis Flinta marshals the midfield alongside youngster Mads Emil Madsen.

Silkeborg have won all three of their home league assignments since returning from the winter break in early March and have notched at least two goals in each of those matches, including a 2-1 defeat of fellow promotion hopefuls Fredericia.

That should give them confidence to see off a Naestved side with similar aspirations but whose progression has jolted since returning from the break.

They were thoroughly outplayed by a second-string Aalborg side at home in the Danish Cup and failed to register in home matches against Silkeborg and Koge.

Financial restrictions and below-par campaigns have denied Naestved a return to the top flight but they finally look to be in serious contention for promotion.

However, they are likely to have to settle for being second-best when they lock horns with the league leaders.
