Preview

Even the euphoria of a 3-1 Scottish League Cup semi-final win over Rangers couldn’t carry Hibs to a victory against Ross County on Wednesday and St Johnstone look set to hand a sixth straight Premiership defeats to Jack Ross’s side.

Martin Boyle has found the net only once in his last five league starts for Hibs, who often fail to fire when the 14-goal Aussie doesn't strike. The 28-year-old was sent off, for comments made to the referee, after the final whistle at the Global Energy Stadium and his absence will be a big blow to Hibs’ chances.

Christian Doidge, who would fit as a replacement for the Aussie, was also dismissed and Hibs will have to wait on the outcome of the appeal against his red card.

St Johnstone are a decent side when things click, creating plenty of goalscoring opportunities. The Saints have lost only four of their last ten matches and two of those defeats came against Celtic. At 15-8 it looks worth siding with Callum Davidson’s men against the depleted visitors.

Third-placed Hearts are unbeaten at Tannadice this season, but that run could be snapped when St Mirren come to town. The Buddies have lost just four of their 19 matches in all competitions this season and there is a lot to like about the way Jim Goodwin has his side playing.

St Mirren haven’t won in five matches, but they have won the shot count in all of those games, bar a 2-1 defeat to Rangers and there’s nothing to worry about when you have managed 48 shots on goal in your last four matches. This match doesn’t look anywhere near the forgone conclusion the prices suggest and at 4-1 St Mirren look a nice bet.
